Product Details

A grand antique Edwardian Albert chain made in Birmingham in 1905. It consists of chunky sterling silver curb links, each stamped with a sterling lion mark and gilded in 18ct gold to give it a desirable yellow bloom.

Albert chains were popularised and named after Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s consort in the 19th Century and were traditionally worn by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today, they are also worn as stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldiers during the first world war who wore the chains as a keepsake in the hope they’d return home safely.

It’s a solid, substantial chain and fitted with its original hallmarked clasps and a new T-bar so it can be worn as a traditional Albert or as a stylish statement necklace.
